I’ll expand this more on a different page, but for now lets stick with godaddy (godaddy.com) or dynadot.com used them both and …well we will get to that more later. Just go to one of those sites and type in the two names or the one you have your heart set on. I hope its there for you and you spend the $8.95, you have to renew yearly.
So if, and its pretty likely your names are gone, then well its not real fun but thats life, or prehaps thats business. I would go with your business name and city added, that shouldnt be taken and mostly easy for anyone you want as a customer to remember. Joesmiddleeartchplumbing .com should be out there. I really hate to say it, but that is sort of long, but thats what you have. At some point I will likely offer to help as well as make a few pages with free tools to help you search(free tools). Just FYI I’m cheap I dont like spending money if I can help it.
Okay here are a few simple guidelines to help. I still strongly recommend a .com You want it to be as short as possible, our middle earth starts getting long. Stay away from words that are hard to spell. If I see it, do I likely know what you offer in just those couple of words. Thats it, its time for you to have a site and spend a little time looking for a name. You run a business, it isnt easy and it wasnt easy to start. You spent some time looking for decent location, and likely didnt get your first choice. If you are reading this, hey it worked. You only have to do this once.
We are talking $15 dollars, and a few hours on Sunday afternoon, and you are set. Look at as a treasure hunt, its your business. You clients might no love location, or colors you picked, but its what you came up with and if like me, youre proud of it. You can also so with some like JMEplumbing, for Joes middle earth, I might not know it in before I see your site, but not hard to remember. I would also stay away from hypens, but hey its your business. BTW FYI, you have the alphabet, numbers and hypens, those are you choices, no hash tags question marks….Just saying as I’ve had long talk with friends that would not get that simple fact into their head.
So its simple, here is your next step jot down a few ideas on names. And the next pretty day take a few pictures of your business, hopefully including at least the 4 I mentioned. Perhaps jot down what you Want to say, keep simple short. Dont make it sound like snob working on their PhD. JME plumbing we can help you solve your plumbing needs…..just whatever. Just went to the site I found as I wrote this. Dont love what he wrote, but there is a tagline of his store, basicly his words, blah blah we dont cost an arm and a leg. Thats likely two plays on words, but whatever. Next is a SHORT paragraph with more than that line. And then on the side, is the highlights of his products as services. Keep it short and simple. If you sell pipe most know you sell anything that pip will fit. You just want them to call or come buy.
